Inspiration

I was in Washington, DC last week for a work conference and then some tourist reasons. There were some beautiful items in the museums and buildings. They've been marinating for awhile and hopefully they will manifest themselves in wonderful ways this year. Here are some of the highlights:

The Library of Congress: ceiling mosaics of knowledge and the muses: wall painting of winter
Just such great colors, muted and vivid

A wonderful painting entitled Swiss Landscape by Alexandre Calame: one of my favorite things from the whole trip - just peaceful and vibrant (at the National Gallery of Art)

A World War I propaganda poster to encourage knitting for the troops: wonderful charcoal drawing

Flowers at the Botanical Gardens and the Sackler Gallery - more vibrant colors and amazing shapes
